Psychosynthesis is a therapeutic approach that emphasizes personal growth, self-integration, and development through the fusion of logical thought with a multidimensional, analogical approach. The upcoming Psychosynthesis course at ICPPD, starting in Spring 2025, will explore these principles and offer a pathway to understand and practice Psychosynthesis.
Psychosynthesis is a holistic approach that integrates elements from psychoanalysis, humanistic psychology, and transpersonal psychology. Developed by Roberto Assagioli, a contemporary of Freud and Jung, it emphasizes not only psychological but also spiritual aspects, supporting a vision of humanity that seeks balance, meaning, and an integrated sense of self. This philosophy forms the ethos of all ICPPD programs, aligning with the spirit of a “psychology of hope.”
The Synthesis Center in America describes Psychosynthesis as “the process of personal growth: the natural tendency in each of us to harmonize or synthesize our various aspects at ever more inclusive levels of organization… All living things contain within them a drive to evolve, to become the fullest realization of themselves. This process can be supported consciously, and Psychosynthesis is one means to do this.”
Italian author and Psychosynthesis expert Piero Ferrucci captures the essence of Psychosynthesis as “a training in the art of living,” emphasizing five fundamental points: avoiding unnecessary self-harm, using techniques to improve quality of life, unlocking unexpressed potential, embracing freedom of choice, and fostering meaningful relationships.
The practice of Psychosynthesis is about self-reflection and soul recovery, often facilitated by expressive arts, metaphor, dreams, and storytelling. It introduces concepts like sub-personalities, which represent parts of ourselves developed for survival but which, when integrated, bring us closer to our true, whole selves.
In our rapidly changing world, Psychosynthesis offers a framework to foster personal well-being and spiritual growth, inspiring individuals to act from a place of peace and altruism. Gandhi’s words resonate here: “Be the change you want to see in the world.”
The next CPD Certificate in Psychosynthesis begins in Spring 2024.
